Day 9 - mid autumn festival on a cold day @ Thursday, September 23, 2010

It is "中秋节" and for no reason; it falls on a very cold day. Today’s temperature in Wuhan – 20 degree Celsius, how cool is that? Everyone starts to rejoice once the cold breeze starts to blow towards their direction and keeping them cool all the way to the classroom block. However, such happiness was short-lived, as the breeze turns into strong wind, as it beats against our cheeks; it just sends shivers down our spines. Luckily, we had soup cum rice at a local soup café to keep ourselves warm and refreshed. The soups were simply great, mainly soups that we are able to drink in Singapore, with a few other specialty soup being added on the menu. Most importantly, everything that is being served up is piping hot!
It is mid autumn festival and we are celebrating on a cold day; eating traditional moon cakes, while drinking modern day lipton tea.  Furthermore, the moon is nowhere in sight.

Reflection:
The weather in Wuhan suddenly changed, according to the weather forecast website; fairly accurate forecast. However, most of us are not prepared for such a cold spell. Smoking has been strictly controlled by the government in Singapore for these past few years. However, the scene over here is much more different from what we see in Singapore. For some reasons, the locals here are able to smoke freely at any location. Sometimes even in Shopping malls. As a Singaporean that does not support people smoking when I could smell that tobacco scent in the air, it just makes my stomach turn and I would walk away as soon as possible.
