Reflection:
As we went over to the new campus today, we were very lucky to be able to see the freshmen having their orientation training. Their orientation training is different from our orientation camp. For them, they have “军训” which translates into English will be army training. Such a big difference isn’t it? The purpose for such training is to instill discipline in the students. As we all know, in the army, everything talks about disciplinary. By setting their minds to the correct path from the very beginning, the students shall not be led astray not matter what is the circumstances. While talking on the topic of army training and discipline in the army, I shall relate it to the NE message, “We must ourselves defend Singapore.
We are proud to defend Singapore ourselves; no one else is responsible for our security and well-being.” In Singapore, it is compulsory for all able-bodied male Singaporeans that are above the age of 18 needs to enlist into the army and embark on a 2 years journey by serving national service. As Singapore is a small country, with very limited resources, and the only precious resource we have is the people in Singapore. Thus, we as young adults that are 18 and above, serves national service as a pledge to say that we will defend Singapore ourselves.
